- עָקַץ
- עָקַץ(cmp. עקב, a. Arab. ʿaḳaṣ) (to bend, twist; denom. עוּקָץ tail, point, peduncle , 1) to cut fruit by the stalks. Peah VII, 3 ע׳ את כל האשכול Ms. M. if he cut an entire cluster. Snh.41a ע׳ תאנה he cut figs. B. Kam.70b עֲקוֹץ לך תאינה מתאינתיוכ׳ cut figs (to the value of the stolen object) in my fig plantation, and take possession for me of the stolen object which thou holdest; a. e. 2) to sting, prick. Y.Ber.VIII, 12b שעֲקָצוֹ חכרבר וחיה that a lizard stung him, and he recovered. Cant. R. to I, 12 אפי׳ פורטענא לא ע׳ בם not even a flea stung them; ib. to V, 3 עָקְצָה. Ib. to II, 15 ועוֹקְצִין אותם and they pricked them (with a pin); a. fr.Esth. R. to I, 12 (proverbial expression) רמזתו ולא נרמז עֲקָצַתּוּ ולא נעקץ she gave him a hint, and he did not heed it, she pricked him, and he did not feel the sting. Nif. נֶעֱקַץ to be stung, feel the sting, v. supra.
